About
My name is Yovana, creator of Yovy’s Yummies.
I am a self-taught home baker who’s learnt the craft of cake decorating through good old YouTube and the love of cake decorating programs.
I’ve always been creative from a young age; You’d always find me doodling with my dad on scraps of paper or creating something out of rubbish and I’m proud to say I haven’t changed one bit! Even as a teenager I studied the world of Arts & Crafts and dipped my toes into Graphics, Fine Art and Textiles as my A levels, then went onto University to study Graphic Design: New Media. Unfortunately the Graphic Design world wasn’t for me and I decided to take a career change and started my search… I am now working within the corporate industry as Front of House.
I was adamant to keep my creative juices flowing even at home so I would always watch cooking and baking programmers with my mum and learn from her (as she’s an absolutely amazing cook). Mum helped me bake my first ever cake (which was a French Chocolate Torte cake) and I fell in love with baking from then- So thanks Mum!
After baking a few cakes here and there I realised it was soo therapeutic, relaxing and rewarding all at the same time (and super yummy!). My extended family started noticing that I took on baking as a hobby and on some special occasions was asked to make cakes or desserts; I even made my own 21st Birthday cake! This is where it all started from…so a huge thank you to the family!
So after many years of practice, failures and beautiful creations, others started noticing my work and asked if I was selling my cakes; I was so shocked! I never realised that I could actually make a sellable cake! It was daunting and out of my comfort zone… I was so scared at first, but the amazing feedback gave me the courage to keep on going.
Following on from this I plucked up the courage and used my Graphic Designer skills to create a logo, I did some research and knocked up a pricelist. Once I gained more confidence in my work I decided to upload my photos to social networks and created a page on Facebook/Instagram and voila…the start of my mini business! Yay!
Stepping out of my comfort zone was a big ask for me as I am a sufferer of Anxiety, but seeing people enjoy my creations gives me such a boost to keep on going and slowly but surely I am starting to see I have this amazing talent. The stress is soo worth it in the end. One thing I’ve learnt from many years of trying, failures and heartache is you won’t always succeed...you just have to keep on going because if you don’t, you’ll never achieve your dreams.
My aim is to have my own boutique wedding cake bakery and each year I am setting new golas and getting closer and closer to my dream.
